ABOUT US

Richard Yamada owns a Southeastern Alaska sportfishing lodge and has served as Commissioner on the International Pacific Halibut Commission. His mission is to establish Alaska’s first commercial Magister Squid fishery to help manage this potential predator and support local fishermen as they find ways to pivot as the industry changes.

the FY23 Saltonstall-Kennedy Grant

The Saltonstall-Kennedy Program administers a yearly grant competition that funds approximately 40 projects for $10 million that lead to the promotion, development, and marketing of U.S. fisheries. In 2023, Richard’s team at United Anglers of Alaska were awarded a portion of these funds to develop a global market for Alaska’s Magister Squid.
